Two Complete Sagas, No Extra Charge
If you already pay for Kindle Unlimited, you are sitting on more vampire romance than you probably realise.
Not a handful of self-published one-offs. Two entire sagas, thirteen books between them, both complete, both finished, and both among the better things in this genre. Plus five standalones worth your time.
Here is all of it, with the spice level and the Fantasy Index score for each, so you can pick by mood rather than by cover.
Saga One: Crowns of Nyaxia
Carissa Broadbent · 7 books · all on Kindle Unlimited
This is the best-built vampire world written this decade, and the entire thing is included.
| # | Title | Spice | Index |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Serpent and the Wings of Night | 4/5 | 27/30 |
| 1.5 | Six Scorched Roses (standalone) | 3/5 | 25/30 |
| 2 | The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King | 4/5 | 28/30 |
| 2.5 | Slaying the Vampire Conqueror (standalone) | 4/5 | 28/30 |
| 3 | The Songbird and the Heart of Stone | 4/5 | 27/30 |
| 4 | The Fallen and the Kiss of Dusk | 4/5 | 25/30 |
| 5 | The Lion and the Deathless Dark | pending | pending |
Start with The Serpent and the Wings of Night. A human raised by the vampire king of the Night Court enters a deadly tournament to win a wish from a goddess. Three houses, sixty days of trials, and a slow burn that pays off exactly when it should.
Then read Six Scorched Roses second, not last. It is 204 pages, it can technically be skipped, and skipping it makes book two land less hard.
Three books in this saga score 27 or above on the Fantasy Index, which is more than any other series in the coven.
Saga Two: Crave
Tracy Wolff · 6 books · all on Kindle Unlimited
A boarding school in Alaska, full of things with teeth.
| # | Title | Spice | Index |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Crave | 2/5 | 21/30 |
| 2 | Crush | 2/5 | 22/30 |
| 3 | Covet | 2/5 | 25/30 |
| 4 | Court | 3/5 | 23/30 |
| 5 | Charm | 3/5 | 25/30 |
| 6 | Cherish | 3/5 | 21/30 |
A different proposition entirely. This is young adult, the spice stays between two and three, and it is a series you read for the ensemble rather than the heat.
Covet, book three, is the best of them. It is also where the series makes a structural decision so bold that it reorganises everything before it.
And note the oddity: Charm was published fifth and takes place second. Read in publication order the first time. On a reread, slot it into position two and watch the whole series change.
Five Standalones
A Dowry of Blood
S.T. Gibson · Spice 3/5 · Fantasy Index 24/30
Written as a letter to a dead husband. Constanta was dying in a ruined village when he found her. He saved her, kept her, loved her, and then brought home a second bride, and then a third.
Short, lyrical, and the fastest route to being quietly devastated on this entire page. One evening.
Ninth House
Leigh Bardugo · Spice 2/5 · Fantasy Index 21/30
Alex Stern survived something nobody should survive, sees things nobody else can see, and has been handed a full ride to Yale in exchange for policing its secret societies.
The magic is real and it costs something. The horror is not supernatural, it is what privilege does when nothing can stop it.
Zodiac Academy
Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti · Spice 4/5 · Fantasy Index 23/30
A fae academy, two sisters who discover they are heirs to a throne, and four Heirs who would rather they had not.
The first book of a nine volume series, so treat this as a door rather than a standalone. Enormous on BookTok.
A Tempest of Tea
Hafsah Faizal · Spice 2/5 · Fantasy Index 18/30
A tearoom by day, a blood den by night, a heist, and a crew.
The lowest Fantasy Index score on this page and one of the most interesting books on it, because it treats vampires as a setting rather than a fantasy. If everything else here confirms what you already like, this one might not.
The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening
L.J. Smith · Spice 1/5 · Fantasy Index 17/30
Published in 1991, long before the television series, and considerably stranger than the show that came from it.
Read it as a period piece. It is chaste, it is short, and it is where a great deal of modern YA vampire fiction learned its shape.
If You Only Read One
For the best book here: The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King, though you will need The Serpent and the Wings of Night first.
For one evening: A Dowry of Blood. Two hundred and fifty pages and you will not be the same person at the end.
For something to disappear into: Crowns of Nyaxia. Seven books, and every one of them is included.
For the least expected: A Tempest of Tea.
A Necessary Warning
Kindle Unlimited availability changes without notice. Publishers rotate titles in and out, and a book included today can be gone next month. Everything on this page was checked in September 2026.
Always confirm on the book's Amazon page before you start a saga. Nothing is worse than reaching book four of seven and discovering the rest is no longer included.
Everything Else
Every book in the coven is scored on the Fantasy Index, sorted by intensity rather than quality.
If choosing is the hard part, take the quiz and we will pick one for you.
And if you want to know exactly how spicy something is before you commit, the spice guide rates every book we have reviewed.
