The Verdict
You want a friendship, not a love triangle.
Rose Hathaway and Lissa Dragomir have a bond that runs through six books, and the romance is genuinely the subplot. That is rare, and it is why this series is still recommended two decades on.
It is young adult, it is chaste, and book three will do something to you that the first two do not prepare you for.
